After more than ten years working as a playwright and scenographer, I founded my own studio in 1999 to bring to museography a way of conceiving space rooted in theatre. Since then, the dramaturgy of space has been at the core of my work, providing a meeting point between scenography, museography, narrative architecture, design, lighting and audiovisual creation.
The studio develops comprehensive museographic projects, from initial concepts and the development of the museographic narrative to spatial design, detailed design and production supervision. Each project begins with its content and the specific conditions of its location, establishing relationships between space, objects, visitor movement, image, light, sound and audience.
My involvement in the performing arts has continued alongside my work in museography. Recent projects include the stage direction of Un ballo in maschera at the Varna Opera Theatre in Bulgaria and the monodrama Medea, with music by Ambrosi Carrión and Joan Manén, presented at L’Auditori in Barcelona. This ongoing relationship between stage and museum continues to inform a practice in which both disciplines serve as territories for research.
When a project requires its own audiovisual production, we work through La Rara Avis Films, developing content conceived as an integral part of the dramaturgy and the exhibition space.
We work on projects of different scales and types, ranging from museums and major exhibitions to specific interventions and art installations. The studio consists of interior designer Jose Castelló and myself, together with a network of professionals assembled specifically for each project.
After more than three decades of work, the studio’s practice continues to revolve around the same line of enquiry: how to construct narratives through space and how, through all the languages that operate within it, to establish a relationship between content, place and those who move through it.
