This traveling exhibition invites you to visit the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Família through the figure of its architect, Antoni Gaudí. It consists of a series of modules that serve both as display stands and as a storage system for transport.
Gaudí and the Sagrada Familia is a traveling exhibition commissioned by the Fundació Junta Constructora del Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família to promote knowledge of the building and to serve as an invitation to visit the famous building by the architect Antoni Gaudí. We developed a structure designed specifically for this exhibition, consisting of wooden self-supporting modules that simultaneously serve as a display stand for the exhibition panels and as a means of storage and protection during their transport. All these modules are stacked to fit inside the vehicle, and they incorporate their own lighting through LED strips. The aesthetics of the wooden crates is associated with the idea of touring and transport. The texture of the wood and the direct impression of images on the wood allows for incorporating any "wounds" incurred during transport into the concept of the exhibition. Although the structure is based on a modular order with identical parts, making it possible to rationalize the construction and lower costs, efforts were made so that the placement in the exhibition spaces allows for various options, adapting in a flexible and dynamic way to the possibilities of each room.
Of these possibilities, we propose an option that symbolically expresses the contents of the modules through their arrangement. The exhibition narrative is divided into three acts, in the manner of a Wagnerian opera like Parsifal. The first part evokes the open doors of the temple, inviting us to enter. There is an introduction and an explanation of how Gaudí took constant inspiration from nature. In the second act, the visitor is invited to delve into the complex thinking of the versatile architect and artist, along with the confluence of art, science and spirituality that characterizes the Sagrada Família. In the final act, the structure reproduces the blueprint of the building, with its façades, the apse and the concept of the forest of columns. As a finale, an audio-visual display connects Gaudí’s work with the human dimension of the inhabitants and the feelings that the building evokes for them, through their direct testimonies.
