The exhibition space holds fundamental importance in guiding the public during their visit. The main premise was to conceive a place structured around two main axes: the first being the neighborhood of Montmartre, where Suzanne Valadon lived, worked, evolved, and brought her work to life; the second, a visual axis that takes us from Montmartre to Paris.
This duality of axes allows us to delve into the emotional universe of Suzanne Valadon and better understand her artistic legacy. While visitors will wander through streets that evoke the Montmartre of yesteryear, it is important to note that this environment always presents itself subtly, leaving the spotlight entirely on the work and contemplation of Valadon.
Through reproductions printed on tulles, we offer a perspective of historic Montmartre, which actually represents Paris, and beyond this representation lies the vast world that encompasses Suzanne Valadon's artistic universe. An opening between two images of the City of Lights invites us into an intimate space, an inner realm where Valadon painted her female nudes and odalisques.
This aperture serves as the central axis of the exhibition, as it provides us with the opportunity to understand both Montmartre and Paris, and reveals how the artistic effervescence of the Belle Époque laid the groundwork for the avant-garde of the 20th century.
